Big Boy 11th Birthday…Arcade, Movies, Chuckie Cheese…Oh, my! (7/18)

Posted on: 07/19/2010

So even while away on vacation we still had to celebrate another birthday…our oldest, Big Boy!

I can still, literally, feel the day in which we saw our son slipping away from us. He woke up so normal…smiling, talking, making requests, etc….hours later we were forced to everything we thought we knew about parenting to figure out what was going on with our child.

I cannot express how blessed we feel with how far our oldest has come since his diagnosis of autism…from completely nonverbal and incontinent to a spitball of rapid moving motion whose very capable of expressing himself verbally, through signing, and typing. Being potty-trained also helps out a lot! Spark by ’bouts of abuse at school, I went on a mission to try to teach our son as much as I could as fast as I could.

There are always the constant stares or murmurs from others who are unaware of his condition whenever we’re out in public…no one knows that if he could he more than likely would desire not to sound, speak, or act the way he does IF he could. It tears me up inside knowing that I can’t just wipe this all away. My faith and expectations are my driving force and has gotten us much further than we’d ever imagine and what doctors told us in the past.

We all still have a LONG way to go towards his recovery, but I thank God daily that we are no where near where we use to be and that our desire to see him get the things in life in which he desires without setbacks remains strong.

Happy Birthday my handsome and intelligent Big Boy! We enjoyed your day on yesterday, including my winning of the Jackpot on the Pop Balloon game at Chuckie! 😉

As long as there is breath in my body, with the help of God, I will do my best to help you live as normal and independent of a life as possible.

Hello and welcome! I am a military spouse & mom of four boys and two girls, ages 1 to 10, oldest diagnosed with autism. We're located in the Charleston, SC area. My family and my faith are very important to me. Since I've started using coupons I have been able to save more money and become a better steward of my household. I hope to seed into the general public, and our military families, how to spend less and get more.

Get ready to take your grocery & household spending to a whole new level! Couponing is not only a means to seed but an avenue to harvest...both opportunities are endless & a joy to delight in.

I welcome feedback and comments! Thank you again!
