It was great seeing everyone this morning for the workshop at the Hickory Hawg (the food, afterwards, was DELICIOUS…Ribs, literally, were falling off of the bones). As in previous workshops, our mock training demonstrated potential scenarios to work at a couple of the local stores. Today we highlighted Target, Walgreens, and Publix. For our homework assignment, each participant is asked to work the scenarios out and report back their experiences.

This is a great way to get your feet wet without trying to figure out which items would be best to toss together to further reduce your OOP, but, at the same time, getting the items that you need, and some you may be wanting to try for the first time.

I went out today in search of some goodies and was very pleased, overall. Target recently posted some clothing coupons on their website to assist you with your goals to not only save on grocery and household expenses but also on other, often, costly items, such as pants, shirts, movies.

One of my favorite things about these deals is that someone, who is new to couponing, can print a lot of these coupons and walk into the store that same day and enjoy what it’s like to use the funds they currently have to make a different in the lives of their family members without the stress of feeling the need to have MORE money to do more…you less to get more…

Here’s an example of some items you can reap using the coupons available on their site and a few other manufacturer coupons:

(1) Menora Denim Pants, $6.47 clearance
-used (1) $3/1 Menora Men or Women Denim (TARGET Q)

(1) Champion Men’s T-Shirt, $7.50 sale

-used (1) $1/1 Rayovac any pack of alkaline batteries (PRINT)
***There are also $1/1 Coupons here:
-$1/1 Rayovac Alkaline or Hearing Aid Batteries, any pack – 07-25-10 SS & 06-20-10 SS

In addition to the items pictured above I did manage to get a LOT of the children’s school supplies, to include, 11 Composition Notebooks ($0.25ea.), 13 packs of Loose Leaf Paper, Flexible Ruler, 2 Boxes of Colored Pencils, 3 Boxes of Crayons and still paid around $35 for everything. The DVDs and Men’s Shirts are great items to stock up on for gift-giveaways.

Also, keep your eyes opened for the 90ct. Post-It Note Pads. They were priced at $1ea.. Using the $1/1 Post-It Notes (HERE) you’ll reap them for FREE! The Rivers Ave. store was out of them today (8/13).

There have been many of times in which I’ve entered a store, days after the sale began, to find some of the items I’m interested in purchasing cleared from the shelves. When we first began couponing I simply brushed it off and failed to head over to customer service to request a raincheck for the items. I wanted them, but I didn’t want to spend more time in the store than I needed to, and would, often times, even, forget to get them when I had every intention to do so…of course, upon leaving I would remember and still did not want to head back to the store to grab them.

Are rainchecks really worth the time and small effort it takes in getting them? My answer…YES!

There are times when an item that is on sale, is no longer in stock, and has coupons to further reduce your OOP (out-of-pocket) can even result in a much better deal while you’re waiting for them to return to your store’s shelves. For example, the other week Publix had the BIC Multi-purpose Lighters, BOGO, $3.49. At the time, there were $1/1 manufacturer’s coupons available to make them $1.49 for (2). When I arrived at the store, they were all out! I did, however, requested a raincheck for eight of them…while waiting for them to come in, I was looking through some of my military coupon booklets and located $2/1 coupons! This made them not only FREE, but FREE plus $0.51 overage. I immediately cut out the coupons to place with my raincheck and waited…

…now I never did get to work my deal as over the course of waiting I handed out some of the coupons and failed to replace them, and on the very last day that my raincheck was valid, the store had them back in stock but I only had four of the eight coupons on me. I could have still worked the deal getting four instead of eight, which I wish I would have now…hindsight is always 20/20…I ended up seeding the remaining of the coupons into the life of someone else to grab theirs in which they also had a raincheck for.

Now, back to present day. I was walking around carrying three (3) rainchecks in my purse from Rite-Aid since 7/31 for the Nivea for Men Bodywash, $1.99 w/$1 UP Reward, Nivea Happy Sensation Body Lotion, $5.99 w/$1 UP Reward, and Rolaids Soft Chews, 12ct., $1. Because our Rite-Aid does not offer the UP Rewards when “cashing” in your raincheck, they reduce the price of the item factoring in the amount of the reward. So my rainchecks indicated a price of $0.99 for the Nivea Body Wash and $4.99 for the Nivea Happy Sensation Lotion after deducting the UP values. I was still able to use my manufacturer’s coupons on the items and simply added in other items to eat up the differences.

Here’s what we reaped:

(2) Nivea Happy Sensation Body Lotion, $7.99, marked down to $4.99 with raincheck
-used (2) $3/1 Nivea Happy Sensation Body Lotion, Any 13.5 Fl. Oz. – 07-25-10 RP
made them $1.99ea.

(2) Rolaids Tropical Softchews, 12ct., $1ea.
-used (1) $4/2 Pepcid, Rolaids, Mylanta, Dramamine, Lactaid, Imodium, Or Tucks, Any (Excludes Trial Size) – 06-06-10 RP
made them FREE plus $2 wiggly room

(8) Nivea for Men Body Wash, $4.99 & 5.49, marked down to $0.99ea. with raincheck
-used (2) $4/2 (PRINT)
used (2) $3/2 (PRINT)
made them all FREE plus $6 wiggly room

(1) Nestle Bottled Water, 24pk., $4.49 sale

(1) Wonka Mix-Ups Assorted Candy, 2lb. bag, 3.99, sale (Can ya’ll hear Hubby opening those wrappers ;))

-used (1) $5/$25 Rite-Aid (PRINT)

Subtotal (Before Raincheck Prices): $67.88
Subtotal (AFTER Raincheck Prices): $29.37
Subtotal (AFTER Coupons ): $0.37
Tax: $1.54
Total OOP: $1.91

In the end, obtaining my rainchecks, was an absolutely GREAT idea. I forgot to get them that day while I was in the store but ran back inside to get them as my spirit was already dropping ideas in my head as to potential deals…definitely WORTH IT!

BTW, there weren’t enough of the lotions nor Rolaids Tropical Softchews in stock to satisfy my raincheck amounts so the cashier simply crossed off the original quantity and replaced it with the amounts remaining after my purchases on tonight…thus I can shop reap more of the above-mentioned items for FREE and add on other things, such as Hubby’s candy.
